I have used Chapingo in the past and they are excellent but expensive.
This summer we had two dead trees. One has already been removed. The other in 2
weeks. We are using Adirondak. Very reasonable.

Last week, with no warning or wind or rain, a tree in our back yard split
almost in half. I was standing in the kitchen, heard a big crack and
watched a thick branch come down, stopping and resting on the roof of our
back porch, narrowly missing our very large plate glass windows.
I quickly got on the listserve (yeah, listserve!!). Called several places
and Ed's tree service could come the next morning. It was $2500 which is
more than I thought it would be - but they did a great job and came
immediately. So I do recommend them.
The limb was fully green and healthy - with no signs of dead areas. They
speculated that wind had roughed it up over the months and maybe the
twisting had weakened the juncture of this large limb at the trunk. Who
knows -

Dear neighbors - we have a dead tree and a waiver from the city for its
removal so we're looking for estimates. I've called Bartlett (they can't
come till the 22nd), Artistic Tree Experts, and Takoma Tree Experts. Any
other recommendations or bad experiences?
We also need a handyman to see if we can fix the handle of our front screen
door - don't know if it can be fixed or needs to be replaced. I think it's
too small a job for George Harper and we've had a bad experience with
Rodney Washington. Any other recommendations?
Thanks, everyone. Karen on Takoma kxburke@xxxxxxx
