No mail on the porch, but I continue to get my neighbors' mail, and they

In the meantime, this is a change to my mail delivery. Nothing like it
has happened in the 11 plus years I have lived where I do. I want to
understand what happened and prevent it from happening again. If the USPS
is okay with this sort of delivery, I will definitely get a post office
box. But it shouldn't be a requirement to get my mail delivered safely.

If the mail carrier, whether substitute or otherwise, chose to leave my
mail lying on the front porch, where weather can damage it or anyone can
take it, I don't even know what to say. It cannot be legal.
At this point, I feel nervous about going away for more than a few
hours. I guess I'll see what happens to my mail today. Has this happened
to anyone else? Other thoughts?
