I wish I could say I knew where to get a hard copy of "Native Plants for
Wildlife Habitat and Conservation Landscaping: Chesapeake Bay Region". It was
given to me by a local landscaper. I believe the book is free, and I have seen
it in various places. You might contact DNR/FWS and ask them.
Also, here's an additional document - the same idea but for Maryland's Piedmont
region. It was published in 2001 and without many photos, but I think it could
still be a good resource. Here in North Takoma Park, we are right on the
border between the coastal plain and piedmont regions, so plants from both
regions may do well here.

Good luck!

Anne and others,
Do you have any ideas about where to purchase the Chesapeake natives document
you listed? I'd love a bound copy and can't find it on the DNR website for
purchase.
Thanks, Sue

To Stephen and anyone else who's interested, these two guides to local native
plants (including shrubs) are comprehensive and a great starting point. In
fact, I would say that the second one listed is THE go-to guide.

I'd like to enlist your help in disseminating the Takoma Park Native Tree
Selection Guide.
This guide is available to view and download on the Friends of Native Trees in
Takoma website, fontt.org.
The guide features trees that are native to MD and "not rare" (to use Bonap
terminology) in Montgomery County and one or more neighboring counties. Our
target audience is anyone in the area with a yard or land to plant a native
tree, especially people that are not particularly aware of the benefits of
native trees.
Obviously, people on this listserv are well aware of the reasons for planting
native trees, but you are well-connected in your communities and with community
organizations. Therefore, your help in publicizing the guide would be much
appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards,Lizz Kleemeier
