To Stephen and anyone else who's interested, these two guides to local native
plants (including shrubs) are comprehensive and a great starting point. In
fact, I would say that the second one listed is THE go-to guide.

I hope this helps!

Hey Neighbors,
Just passing this along....
If you are considering planting trees on your property, or you just want to
better understand the critical importance of planting native trees, this guide,
published by the Friends of Native Trees in Takoma Park, is a comprehensive
resource for you.

I'd like to enlist your help in disseminating the Takoma Park Native Tree
Selection Guide.
This guide is available to view and download on the Friends of Native Trees in
Takoma website, fontt.org.
The guide features trees that are native to MD and "not rare" (to use Bonap
terminology) in Montgomery County and one or more neighboring counties. Our
target audience is anyone in the area with a yard or land to plant a native
tree, especially people that are not particularly aware of the benefits of
native trees.
Obviously, people on this listserv are well aware of the reasons for planting
native trees, but you are well-connected in your communities and with community
organizations. Therefore, your help in publicizing the guide would be much
appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards,Lizz Kleemeier
