A service of the Northern Neck Audubon Society--- Greetings: Birds of the Atlantic Topic of NNAS December 3rd Meeting The birds of the Atlantic include gulls, terns, skimmers, sandpipers, plovers, herons, egrets, swans, ducks, geese, mergansers, rails and more. Beautiful photos will accompany informational stories and a wide variety of our favorite shorebirds. The program will include discussion of habitats, migration and their challenges. Presented by life-long birder, amateur wildlife photographer, Audubon and Virginia Society of Ornithology (VSO) member Bob Schamerhorn. Bob’s fascination with nature has been with him since childhood. This interest had him exploring everywhere from his neighborhood creeks, to the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, all the way to the marshes of the Outer Banks. He is a fledgling of VSO and the Lynchburg Bird Club, which as a youth, sponsored him twice to the Virginia Garden Club’s “Nature Camp” in the mid-1970’s. He graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1979 and attended Virginia Tech in the early 1980’s, where he studied Art and Design. Afterwards, Bob returned to his hometown of Lynchburg, Virginia and eventually bought a home in Bedford County, where he raised his son, Michael. During that time he worked in a several creative positions such as: engraver, canvas painting artist, draftsman and graphic designer. In 1996 he started the Sole-Proprietorship, Infinity Graphics, which specializes in designing websites, packaging, logos and more. He has helped publish a couple of bird books and illustrated a few children’s books as well. Bob started a weekly photoblog (www.iPhotoBirds.com) in 2006 and has published a calendar, filled with his nature photography, every year since 2008. He now resides in Richmond, where he lives with his wife and best friend, Lori. He is an advocate of land conservation, especially as it pertains to birds and their habitats. He is a current member of the National, Richmond and Hawaii Audubon Societies, the Colonial Nature Photography Club and VSO. He gets out with his camera to enjoy the birds and the beauty of nature at any opportunity that presents itself. His favorite activities are: nature photography, bird watching and traveling with his wife. He loves to share the wonder and beauty of nature in his photographs, with hope that others will find it as attractive, beautiful and worth saving as he does. The program will take place at 7:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock, VA. This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
