Come and be prepared to be amazed by our local students and their teacher as
they demonstrate the work they have done this year and the benefits they
received from our scholarship money for Teachers on the Bay.
Chesapeake Academy Teacher, Robin Blake, and Students will present Seacamp
projects on May 1 at Northern Neck Audubon Society program.
During the summer of 2016 NNAS awarded Chesapeake Academy Teacher, Robin
Blake, a scholarship to attend Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Teachers on the Bay
program. Her lesson plan for Teachers On Bay was based on "her dream" of
helping Windmill Point Beach. Working with the Friends of the Rappahannock, the
Master Gardeners, Lancaster County officials and her Chesapeake Academy
students, she is pleased that this dream is coming to fruition.
Blake will talk about how during her "Teacher's on the Bay" experience, she
realized how much her students could do to help our local environment. They
raise oysters, and are in the process of preserving their Nature Trail which
is a wetlands area, by removing invasive species, as well as working with the
County to try to grow more sea grasses to stop erosion and help Windmill Point
Beach.
Joining her will be three Seacamp teams from Chesapeake Academy who will
present their projects:
Philip Haynie and Abby Souders, both 8th graders, presenting "Algal Bloom
Doom." Though unknown by many, nutrient water pollution has a very dangerous
affect on marine ecosystems.
Adair Stanley and Eden Stander, both 7th graders, presenting "Conservation
Station." Conservation awareness provides people with the role they should
play to improve the environment.
Elizabeth Stanley and Jack Porter, both 7th graders, presenting "It's a Win
Win.... Maybe." Symbiotic relationships affect species in different
ecosystems, changing the way the organisms live together.
