I do not believe you need a speed sensor, as it can calculate that using the
GPS, but you do need a cadence sensor if you want that measurement. I have
heard people say that using a sensor gives you a more accurate measurement on
speed.

I think a noon start is too late. By the time I get home and get cleaned up,
the day is shot. However, 10:00 am start is do-able (and a little warmer) if
acceptable to the group.
