Dear PotentialBidders,
NutritionInternational/NI (formerly The Micronutrient Initiative/MI) is
implementingMITRA Youth, a project supporting Weekly Iron Folic
AcidSupplementation (WIFAS) for prevention and reduction of Iron Deficiency
Anaemia(IDA) among school-going adolescent girls, in selected districts in
twoprovinces of Indonesia: East Java and East Nusa Tenggara (ENT). MITRA Youth
is funded by Department of ForeignAffairs and Trade (DFAT) Australia.
MITRA Youth isimplemented in 10 districts in East Java and 10 districts in ENT.
In 2018, NIconducted advocacy meeting at province and district level to
sensitize theWIFAS program. The meeting at province level was attended by
stakeholders fromhealth, education, religious office, social welfare from the
targeted districts.WIFAS program is mostly perceived as the responsibility of
the Health Office, even though it should be also the responsibilities of
Education, ReligiousAffairs and Social Welfare Offices. After the advocacy
meetings and capacitybuilding supported by NI, the involvement of non-health
sectors were improvedand districts have started activities to strengthen the
implementation ofprogram.
March 2020, COVID-19pandemic hits Indonesia among many countries in the world.
As per October 8,2020 there are 320,564 confirmed positive cases with 244.060
people haverecover and 11.580 people died of COVID-19 virus. Currently, many
provinces arestill implementing large-scale social restriction policy to
minimize the spreadof COVID-19 which results in significant reduction on
domestic andinternational travel, bans on group and crowd gatherings and the
closure ofschools, factories, restaurants and public spaces. Such measure
affected healthservices. According to recent online survey conducted by UNICEF
of more than6,000 young Indonesians, nearly 90% of girls have stopped taking
iron tabletduring the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic is stopping essential
nutritionalservices for adolescent in Indonesia and this has a major impact on
theirnutritional status.
To minimizedisruption and loss of learning, the government developed a learning
from homeguidance based on global guidelines and established distance
learningalternatives through online, TV and print materials. Alongside the
delivery ofthese programmes, the Ministry of Education and Culture (MOEC)
contextualizedthe global framework for Reopening Schools to local context to
safeguard thehealth and safety of both children and teachers when reopening
schools. Due toa continued increase in the number of cases, only schools in
areas with lowrisks of local transmission of COVID-19 that met strict
requirements couldreopen.
Manyachievements and improvements on WIFA program in East Java and East
NusaTenggara attained throughout MITRA Youth project. However pandemic
situationimpacted a set back towards those achievements. Taken into
consideration NItogether with DHO would like to ensure WIFA program is
sustainable despite thepandemic circumstances.
Hence, in order toconduct advocacy meeting atdistrict level in East Java and
ENT, NI seeks support an event organizer/agency to facilitate the
implementation of the advocacymeeting.
