One, or possibly more than one, juror believed Michael Dunn over Jordan
Davis' friends. That juror believed Michael Dunn over those teens and the
other witnesses. That juror must have believed one of the following:
.
1. Jordan Davis threatened to kill Michael Dunn.
.
2. There was a gun or something that could have been mistaken for a
gun in the car.
.
3. Jordan Davis stepped out of the car.
.
Someone on that jury must have believed one of those things because that
was Michael Dunn's argument. That was his justification for self-defense.
And based on the jury questions Friday, the point of contention in the
jury room was self-defense.
.
It is the prosecution's responsibility to show motive. They said Dunn lost
it because he was disrespected by African-American teens. Clearly, they
believed race played a part in the tragic events of that night. But in my
opinion, they could have done a lot more to demonstrate Dunn's
preconceived notions about those teens blasting loud music.

The letters Dunn wrote in jail clearly show racial bias. In one letter
Dunn writes, "The jail is full of blacks and they all act like thugs. This
may sound a bit radical but if more people would arm themselves and kill
these %$#!@ idiots when they're threatening you, eventually they may take
the hint and change their behavior." Yet the letters were never
introduced as evidence. Why not? The defense entered character evidence
when they had witnesses testify that Dunn was a peaceful and gentle guy.
Why not counter that?

The prosecution did not do enough, in my opinion, to humanize Jordan
Davis. They should have showed pictures of the victim as a kid and of him
growing up to really bring home the tragedy of a life cut so short.
Instead, the defense dictated the arguments in court. The defense was
allowed to frame the argument. It became all about what Jordan Davis did
or did not do. Not about Michael Dunn flipping out and shooting Jordan
Davis without cause, which should have been the prosecution's main
argument.

They should have done more to dig up dirt on Michael Dunn and attack his
character if they wanted a clear conviction. On my show, we heard from
former neighbors who told horrible stories about Michael Dunn. Whether
these claims were true or not, the prosecution should have at least
attempted to bring people like that and their stories in to testify.
