There are some moths that drive me nuts, and I can't seem to let go. Here is one of them. Very small. Came to black light. I can't find this combination of dark and light bands with silver accents. Hope I can drive you crazy too. Jean ----- Original Message ----- From: Harry Wilson To: ncsc-moths@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2012 6:09 PM Subject: [ncsc-moths] Re: Swammerdamia moth? Jean, I had given that one a long, close look, and it does bear a strong resemblance to my moth. But D. depressana shows a bit of difference in the white head, as I see it. The white on my moth has a pretty straight edge across the moth's "shoulders," while the marking on D. depressana dips downward on all the photos I have seen. I have yet to come across a photo that clearly matches those that I took. Thanks for helping me look for the answer. Maybe mine is a new species that has yet to be photographed! Or maybe it is in the witness protection program. At any rate, it is making me (us) work way too hard. This looks like Depressaria depressana, but that one is supposed to be only in NY and ONT.... recently introduced from Europe. I'm not sure if this message just sent or not. My email acted strange, so I am making sure that it goes. Lifers have been pouring in recently and it has been quite a bit of work to try to keep up. Sometimes I have more photos to work through than time to process them -- and I am retired! I have been going through the MPG plates for days trying to ID the attached moth and the best I can do is to give it a tentative ID of Swammerdamia caesiella. I hope someone among us can either confirm or correct my ID. A couple of nights ago I had two Luna moths (different parts of the property) and last night one in a third location. That was quite a treat.
