[ncsc-moths] ID needed

I spent several hours during the weekend trying to identify the moth in the 
attached image. To my eye it looks like a Noctuinae, but I can't find a good 
match. It's a fair-sized moth, easily more than an inch in total lenght. 
Suggestions please.
