Hi Ken, This is certainly Cudonigera houstonana. As for the occurrence of the species, Powell and Obrastsov (1977) state that the species occurs from Massachusetts to Kansas and is widely scattered in the west. It is regular on Long Island (NY) and also in southeastern AZ, where I have spent part of the last two summers. Inexplicably, the species is not covered in Forbes (1923). All this is to say that if you have Juniper (and perhaps sandy soils), then I am not surprised you would have this species.
