I am not a big fan of the Prolific serial/usb chips, but Prolific did the same driver update but did it the correct way, Just don't respond to the fake chips. There driver didnt support the fake chips so the chip was not usable. Outcome the same, fake chips don't work but you don't get the backlash of bricking my device..
