Yay, they are all filled and ready to be taken over to Randy's house. The
blood test for Annie really isn't to determine a diagnosis, but the
kidney/liver list I belong to asked for it to be done so they can evaluate
where her kidney values are more thoroughly, so I can make diet tweaks, if
necessary. 🙂

Subject: Re: [naturalrabbit] First time making pierogis
Wow, Laura! You are taking on a difficult dish, but your pierogis sound like
they will be very tasty...what a kind thing to do for your friend's
birthday...the brownies will be the perfect dessert.
I am sorry the barium is taking so long to get through dear Malachi's digestive
tract...and hope this test will show what the problem is...poor, sweet guy. I
pray it will not be anything serious....please keep us posted.
That is strange that the more thorough Chem test is less expensive...and I do
wonder why the vet didn't order that in the first place. I am keeping my
fingers
crossed that this will give an answer that shows Annie can be easily
treated.....let us know.
Annie and Malachi are in my prayers.
Love,
Roberta

I decided to make pierogis for our friends' birthday (because she loves them so
much) and oh my, making homemade pierogi dough is not easy. It turned out
perfect (consistency-wise) but then I had to knead it for a solid 10 minutes
and with arthritic hands, that was a rather painful chore. The recipe I used
was written by a polish chef and she advises weighing all the ingredients by
ounces and grams, not by using measuring cups or measuring spoons because she
says that leaves too much room for error. Well, I guess she's right because the
dough is perfect, like playdoh; it isn't sticky or dry. Now it has to "rest"
for 30 minutes before I can roll it out, cut circles and add the filling.
I decided to make breakfast pierogis for her. The only pierogis I have ever had
were filled with mashed potatoes and cream cheese, which I found to be really
bland. So, I cut up 2 sweet yellow onions, a bunch of green onions (stems and
all) and several red potatoes into tiny pieces and fried them in olive oil
until they were perfectly caramelized. I set those aside and then fried up 1/2
lb of bacon and broke it all up into crumbles, tossed that in with my potato
mixture and then scrambled 3 eggs and added that into it all as well. I made
the filling yesterday so it's nice and cold now so I will add some grated
parmesan, asiago and cheddar to the filling mix and it will be ready to go.
She's a meat eater, so she will appreciate my sacrifice cooking bacon for her.
Now I figure if these little pockets of goodness don't fall apart while their
cooking, they will be a win-win. You place a few into boiling water and when
they come to a float, their done, then you can pan fry them if you want. I made
her some brownies for dessert, loaded with chocolate chips so she should be a
happy camper. 🙂
We got Annie in for her Chem 25 at 9am and I am anxious to see what her lab
report says. It's crazy that a Chem 25 is cheaper than a Chem 12....but since
this is the case, I don't know why my Vet just doesn't automatically order the
more thorough test to begin with. We had a chem 12 done last month but the
folks on the kidney/liver list said no, she needs a Chem 25! So that's what we
did and that's what we'll do from now on.
Really hoping the barium test can be completed today with Malachi....it's
taking forever for the solution to make its way thru his intestinal track,
which is why it's taking so long to complete the images. I have a feeling he'll
be gone for yet another week....
