If this works, go back to Nama. It's likely that one of the tracks is muted.
There should also be some indications that Ecasound runs when you press

Yes, I get Engine is running.
When I press space twice only with a few seconds in between, the head still
is set many seconds ahead.
Any hints?
getpos (gp for short) will tell you the current head
position. setpos (sp) will set the head position.
The default volume control for tracks in Nama is 'eadb', for
which 0 (0dB) is the 100% level.
