Hi Gisele and all, it’s certainly refreshing to have some light relief on this
List or any List these days!!
Is anyone doing any age care work, consultations, meetings or have any
information on what’s actually happening with the system? If not, let’s focus
on literary analysis and comedy!!!
Kind Regards, Ros.

Hee Hee hee Bert, are you sure you want to know?
Okay, spoiler alert, anyone who has not read the book and doesn't want to know
what Alyosha said to Liza, the love-struck "invalid" girl, should not read this
post !
So, Burt, pssst...Alyosha tells Liza that he loves her too, and will make her
his wife when he returns from his journey. Laza's mother, Madame Khokhlakova,
overhears the conversation and chides Alyosha out-of Liza's earshot , for
playing up to the childish fantasies of the 14-year-old Liza. He replies,
"Don't tell her that". But when she then accuses him of acting out of pity and
compassion, he denies this, and says there is still a year and half to go
before anything can happen (when Liza will be 16). So the matter is left sort
of unresolved at that point in the book. But Liza's capricious nature and
Alyosha's devotion to his religious calling will mean the "engagement" is
short-lived.
So sorry, Burt, that line may not work as well for you as you hope!
But I should add that Dostyyevsky was not really a writer of romantic novels,
and the Brothers Karamazov, like all his other books, are more in the vein of
social commentaries and reflections on the human condition, and so the Liza
character is part of those reflections.
Now, if it's a chick magnet you are wanting, get a guide dog, or a dog-guide if
the chick is up with her working dog PC vocab. You could post your pic with the
doggie on the Love is Blind app. Be sure that you say that you are vision
impaired but not visually impaired, that is, yu can't see good, but you look
good, and that you are not an invalid, because....because....because, well,
that is so last century. Well that wraps up the PC debate for this week, and
watch this space for news of Alyosha's and Liza's future.
Cheers,
Gisele

Are you going to keep us hanging Gisele?
What was his reply?
I think I’ll use that line to women I meet “how could you love a blind man?”
and they will feel reluctant to say they don’t so as not to look as if they are
prejudicial against blind men. They will feel like telling me what they like
about me and there is my chance to make a move on her.
I think, That’s a good tip for blind folks trying to find that someone!

Hello Teik,
Ah, I had wondered about that possibility. So thanks for sharing that example
and providing the code. I just checked and indeed it appears that the source
for this dated "invalid pension" description is no other than Australian Tax
law and the Australian Office of Financial Management :
http://cdn.aofm.gov.au/uploads/sites/31/2014/02/171349_01HCTE_TFA_Tax_File_Number.pdf
So it seems that the CBA is not to blame here.
Again I do not wish to turn this into a polemical issue, but I do find it
interesting that government terminology doesn't even line up between its
various administrative agencies. So its over 25 years now since the social
Security definitions were change, but evidently the financial regulation arm
has not caught up to that change yet. Again, I am writing this
tongue-in-cheek. I am just reading the audio book version of Dostoyevsky's "the
Brothers Karamazov", written in the 1880's, I believe, and I could not help
laugh to myself last night because One of the passages was a discussion between
the protagonist of the story, Alyosha, and the young disabled girl who falls
in love with him. She asks him, "How could you love an invalid?". I won't
relate the whole passage, but it was sort of sobering that over 130 years
later, that conversation still resounds.
Cheers,
Gisele

Gisele et sl
I have been trading on thr ASX and every time you buy new shares you sre asked
to complete s form likr the CBA one and the category of invalid pension has to
be entered to get an exemption Incidentally the code is 444444441 I think the
whole financial sector thinks and operate in post WW2 era. Someone need to
tell then that they are archade and need to.kerp up with modern times.

Hello all,
I am sharing this half-laughing, half shaking my head:
I just logged-on to the Netbank website to update my Tax File # status, after
receiving a reminder from the commonwealth Bank that I needed to do this to
avoid tax being taken from my account. I followed the prompts to the combo box
to select the type of exemption I had (for not having to provide my TFN). Would
you believe that the option for the DSP was called "Invalid Pension"? Goodness,
I don't think it has been called that since circa 1991! Whoever at the CBA used
this term should get a slap on the hand and made to watch the documentary
"Defiant lives", which includes a clip discussing the demeaning connotation
of this label! I am not a stickler for PC, but that one really is so last
century!
