[muglo] External HD

As I have now acquired an External HD I just have a quick question
with I hope a quick and simple answer. When I need to shut down the
computer, does one have to CLOSE or EJECT the HD before shutting down
the computer? Similarly, when one puts on the power does one have to
turn on the HD unit after starting up the computer? Or can one just
treat it as if it were inside the computer (an additional internal
HD) and just power up everything before starting the computer (as at
present) with the power already on on the Ext HD and Shut down
without first shutting off the Ext HD first? In other words does one
not need to use the power switch on on the Ext HD - just leave it on
all the time?
