Paul, to connect two computers *directly*, use a "cross-over cable". To connect two computers through a hub/switch/router*, hook the computers up to the device with "patch cables" (i.e. direct ethernet cables). * If you can plug more than one item into a router, it means the router includes a built-in switch or hub (switch is simply a fancy hub)!
