[muglo] Re: Bell from Hell ?

It takes a number of days for the cheques to move through the mail (up to a
week, depending on destination), it'll then take Bell a few days to process
them (cheques are an administrative expense so I imagine they 'batch'
them), and then it'll take a few days for the banks to process them and to
release the money to Bell. All in all it can add up to a significant delay
before the cheque gets applied to your account.

By comparison, if you pay your bill on-line, your payment is usually
credited the next day, if not the same day! If it's an automated withdrawal,
it'll get automagically pulled out of your account, provided there's enough
money in the account and you'll never have a late fee again.

As for automated withdrawals: ask yourself if you have ever had a problem
where you actually benefited from paying them using a cheque?

I've been using automated withdrawals since they first became available and
not once in over 10 years have I ever had a problem. They've saved me a lot
of money over the years in terms of late payment fees/interest charges and
stamps.

I absolutely HATE credit card companies (unscrupulous, thieving bastards!!!)
because they don't offer automatic payment options (those SOBs don't offer
automated payments because they make too much money off people who are late
on payments).

PS There are also scheduled payments that can be made. Let's say you always
want to pay the minimum on your credit card, even if you forget, then you
can put, say, $30 on each month. That way, even if you forget, your credit
rating is never in jeopardy.

PS^2 you can pay pretty much everything on-line nowadays (including taxes
and tuition). If you need help, just call up your bank's phone system (or,
sign up with President's Choice for a no-fee bank account at your local
Loblaws/Zehrs or on-line).

Eric.
