Pam, We're not far away from a solution, although it will need a little work from you at your end. Before you start, make sure you back up your original sheet! 1. Make a new column of words/phrases without the quotes. If column B contains the originals, in C1, enter: =SUBSTITUTE(B1,"""","") NB: that's 4 double quotes, then a comma, then two double quotes. That will strip all the quotes out. Drag that formula down the whole column. 2. Then do an A-Z sort on the new column. 3. Then, enter in D1: =COUNTIF(C:C,C1). Drag this formula down the whole column. 4. Now select the whole of column D. Copy it to the clipboard, and paste-special it into the next column as values only. 5. Now delete columns A, C and D and you'll be left with two columns, the first containing words and phrases, and the second containing the number of instances for each, but there will be duplicate entries. 6. Now do an advanced filter on columns A and B. Leave the 'criteria' field empty, but check the box for 'unique records only. Select the 'copy to another location' radio button and in the 'copy to' field enter: "D:E" (without quotes.) Voila. Structure is: date in one column (used to determine when seasonal runs occur but not important to the count I'd like to get). Search terms are in one column, some with quotes and some without. Both single words and phrases used. An example of 4 searches might be: boxes paper plates plastic boxes paper mache boxes Ideally, what I would like to have is a total on each phrase used, and a total on words too so that I would know that "boxes" was searched for 3 times, and paper 2 times, paper mache boxes once, and so forth.
