That's a great Q and I'm afraid the answer will have to be formulaic; in both instances, uninstall before installing the next version you purchase. I hate to resort to that sort of blanket advice but I recently had an experience with Windows Server 2003 which made it plain that it was a poor idea to trust the trial versions either. What I had was a Release To Manufacturing Trial Version of Windows Server 2003 and the patch for Blaster wouldn't install because the build number was too low. That was a surprise because RTM is essentially the code that has become retail. Well, I attempted to upgrade to the retail version and then apply the patch. It failed again. This time it complained about a file checksum mismatch and still wouldn't apply the fix. I wiped the drive and started over and finally had success. The reality then was that Trial versions are not to be trusted either.<g> YMMV, though. My thinking is I should uninstall the beta, then install the trial....but, do I need to uninstall the trial when I get the full version, or can I just upgrade that? Will the trial also have unsupported build numbers?
