I've never had hyphenation turned on in any Word document I've ever used! I would try editing your Normal.dot to take out automatic hyphenation on a blank document, then shut down Word, saving the new Normal.dot template. Reopen Word, reopen your offending document and try applying the normal template to the document. That's if you can live without your existing formatting. Otherwise, maybe somebody else has a suggestion? To All, How can I turn off hyphenation for just one word in my document? The document already exists, and almost all of it was hyphenated using Tools | Language | Hyphenation... then checkmarked "Automatically hyphenate document". Now I have added the word "Mayan" (the ancient civilization). Word 2002 insists on breaking the word as "May-an". I selected only that part of the text that includes the word "Mayan" and unchecked "Automatic hyphenation". When I later checkmarked "Automatic hyphenation" for a different part of the document, the word "Mayan" was again broken up. Another failed idea was to select the text and click on "Manual...". That did remove the hyphen from "Mayan" temporarily, but it went back in when I answered "No" to Word's offer to hyphenate the rest of the document. I even created a separate section for this one paragraph, but Word still hyphenates "Mayan". How can I curb the appetite of the greedy hyphenation monster? Thanks for the help.
