To be honest with you...I don't know how to use the Boolean logic in mail
merge cos' I would naturally do whatever I need through the use of
Access/ADO. Sorry...but I would write a VBA routine to pull whatever I
needed from the DB and then use those results. I'm really sad with mail
merge, otherwise. Cindy Meister is the Word MVP who we consider the mail
merge Queen (I'm the forms/documentation princess<g>).

Maybe she'll catch this one since I changed the subject line
Dian...do you have a clue how Glenda can get this NextIF or whatever field
to pull only records from a mail merge that have a phone number (instead of
an email address) in a particular field? Obviously, the unique thing about
these fields would be that they do NOT have a @ in them
