Hi Peter Well try my suggestion anyway to see if it works with that batch of files. It does do some compacting in the background when idle. So if you are only deleting a few each day, it might have been able to keep on top of your compact without you knowing it. The M$ KB site http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q291645 says " .... Automatic compaction takes place as an idle task in the background. The following conditions must be true for this background task to take place: ..." If you try my suggestion, you'll know whether the manual compaction works or not.
