Hi Peter

Well try my suggestion anyway to see if it works with that batch of
files. It does do some compacting in the background when idle. So if you
are only deleting a few each day, it might have been able to keep on top
of your compact without you knowing it.

The M$ KB site
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q291645 says "
.... Automatic compaction takes place as an idle task in the background.
The following conditions must be true for this background task to take
place: ..."

If you try my suggestion, you'll know whether the manual compaction
works or not.

Colin

Colin,

Can't be. This is the first compact in about a month. I've deleted at
least 300 messages and archived more than that out of the file.
