Andrew -
What is occurring is that there is no title master to design because one has
not yet been created. In order to create a title master, view the slide
master, then do Insert--> Title Master. You should see a new title master
with the formatting of the slide master. (For the templates you are
creating, it makes sense that this is occurring - you haven't added a title
master, so none shows. For templates you purchase, there should always be a
title master. Lack of one is the template creator missing a step.)

Subject: [mso] Powerpoint: Disappearance of Title Master

In PowerPoint 2000 we encountered a strange phenomenon today. On some (but
not all) .ppt files, including blank new ones we created, we were unable to
access the Title Master - the option was greyed out. I could add a Title
slide and go to Master view in order to insert a graphic on the Slide Master
but it would appear on the title slide as well. It was only when I added a
style that we were able to make it behave as expected.

Office is fully installed on each machine and the styles are in the
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates folder. Any templates created
by a user are stored in the profile (which is a mandatory one).

The behaviour was the same on at least 3 machines with 3 different users.
The student who reported the problem said that he had encountered the same
behaviour on his machine at home, running Office XP.

I have just tried to duplicate the problem in Office 2003, but I find that
the menuing is rather different.

Is this perhaps something to do with a default template which has been
replaced or corrupted - it would seem strange that it is evident on several
machines using several different users' profiles.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
