Turn on the drawing toolbar (view/toolbars/drawing)
Click the Arrow which allows selecting objects.

Thanks to Linda's excellent article, I can now move my photos around
wherever I want. The two that I placed behind the text, however, are
now stuck there and won't move, and can't be selected. What mistake did
