Thank you Linda.  I had closed Word before sending.  A reboot certainly
appeared to restart the send but it has failed again.  The mail (by virtue
of the attached file) is not overlarge - it reports 8Mb in the Outbox
screen.  Other mails to the same account are sending normally.  Norton 2003,
by the way, is set to scan incoming mail but not outgoing.

I shan't reboot again tonight but I will see if it can cure it tomorrow.
