Sounds like Outlook is trying to get the mail before it's fully made the
connection to the server. I've seen this many times in older versions of
Outlook, but not in Outlook 2003....since you say "all updates", I'm
wondering if you mean Outlook 2002, since I don't think there ARE any
updates to 2003 yet...or are there?
If you have any third party software installed (including AV software or
anti-spam software that may have to load when you start Outlook), this could
be slowing down Outlook's launch and therefore it is out of sync with the
server...that's why it works if you wait a couple minutes and try again

Anyone heard of this one:
XP Pro, Office 2003 and Outlook 2003 all updates!
When I start Outlook 2003 it will not get mail ? but gets a error that the
server
can't be found, If I click on explorer it finds the server! If I wait a few
minutes then outlook will also get the mail? It's just the first time it
gets
this error. Is it outlook or is it the server maybe??
