Sounds as though you're expecting Excel to be able to find the file for you
automatically after you've moved it to the S: drive. It can't do that.
The built-in way to update your links is to use the Edit/Links menu options.
You can simply find the links you want to update and click "Change Source
..." to update the source path.
If your links are just standard links in cells, then you can probably also
change the path with a Replace (ctrl-H) to edit the paths to the new drive.
Make sure the linked-to file is NOT open when you update the links.
