I just have to share this. One of my varied duties at work
lately has been to review everything filed in our electronic
filing sytem for file size. My goal is identify problem
areas such as improperly scanned documents (ie, in color
instead of B&W) etc.
Well, yesterday I came across a 78 page report in Word that
was 58MB! Needless to say, I figured there was probably
something wrong, so I opened it and look. Well, it seemed
the author had created some schedules in Excel that need to
be in the report. One of the schedules was 55 pages long,
and the author had embbed the file as an Excel table
(clickable back to Excel) 55 times. One time for each
"page". A second schedule was embedded approximately 30
times. To top it off, the Excel file had additional sheets
in it, of other information, that wasn't and shouldn't have
been part of the report, which you could see when you opened
the schedule into Excel.

I changed everything to pictures, and the file size was only
about 1.2MB.

It's utterly amazing to me how much some people who have
been working with Word for years don't know, and that no
one, before it got to me, thought there was anything odd
about at 58MB Word document.

I just had to share this one cause I think it's probably the
craziest one I've seen yet.

Christine
