Well .... I just went there and I see where to turn messages on and off
(they are turned OFF at this time, so no one can post) ... And I see where
to disable access to the archives .... But I don't see anywhere where I can
make the Files section accessible or not accessible, so I guess if you are a
member, you can use the files section there.

Yes, it is possible to specify different permissions for posting versus 
uploading files or photos in Yahoo groups. Yahoo has just increased the free

space to 100MB in the Files section. I think they made some improvements in 
the Photo section as well. You can still prohibit attachments independent of

your settings for posting messages, or uploading files or photos. Log in to 
the group then click Management | Web Tools.

I'm not advocating one way or the other about re-opening the Y! group. This
is 
merely FYI.
