Ess. Outlook 98 was made for Office 97. Like I said before, even
Microsoft recognized all the problems with Outlook 97 so they chose to
update it to 98 for free. Yes, it works very well with Office 97 and
yes, it will be fine on Windows 98. It is a great improvement over 97
but the problem still remains that it won't be supported by MS with
security fixes, etc. Since Outlook has always been criticized for its
security leaks, this is an important thing to take into consideration.
Both Outlook 2000 and 2002, with their security patches, are way better
than 98. However, if finances is a major issue, at least 98 performs
way better than 97.

If it were me, I would personally, bite the bullet and upgrade all of
Office to 2000 or 2002, but that's a choice you have to make.

Subject: [mso] How 'bout this idea? (re Outlook 98)

I need to get a newer version of Outlook (have crappy ol' 97).
Ok,
so while I dither around about which version of Office 2000/2002/XP to
buy,
how 'bout I just buy a book that has the Outlook 98 CD in it?

From the Slipstick site, I learned the Outlook 98 program was
withdrawn as a free MS download in 1999, but I also learned the CDs can
still
be had in copies of out-of-print books. I am about to purchase one such
book
at Amazon for a whopping $20.48 (inc shipping). So just before I hit
the
Submit button, what do you all think of this plan? Will I be able to
install
this program and have it work on my Win98 pc and not interfere with the
Office 97 components (Word & Excel) I use all the time?
Thanks, Ess
