Thanks Linda - as this person is the computer teacher in the adult learning
centre where I volunteer, I assumed he would have done that already but I
checked today and he had not and will do. One other bit of information I
obtained about the problem is that it only occurs when selecting a cell
using his mouse. Using the keyboard works properly. His mouse otherwise in
other applications works properly. I'll find out next week if your first
hunch was the right one. I've also given him your link so he can join this
list also. We start the beginners on the Works Suite and the Advanced start
with the Office package so all the information from this list would be
appropriate for him. Dianne

Tell them to try deleting temp files, then run scandisk and
reboot....then try Excel again

If they don't know how to delete temp files, send them here:
http://www.personal-computer-tutor.com/deletingtempfiles.htm

Report back and let us know if this fixed it or not and we can dig
deeper....or tell them to join this group.

Subject: [mso] Highlighting stuck on in Excel 97

I am forwarding a question that a colleague had posted to another list
but
did not receive any replies. Perhaps this list will be more suited.
Hope
someone can help. Thanks. Dianne
****Question follows******
Whether I enter a new spreadsheet or an old one, as soon as I click on
a cell, the highlight feature comes on and can not be deleted. The
only way I can get out is to use the task manager. Neither Alt nor
Ctrl + F4 work once the file is locked. My mouse appears to be
working fine in all other programs and the keyboard does not have any
keys that are sticking down. I checked for viruses - nothing shows.

I can move and edit comments with no prob.

I am using Windows XP and Excel 97.

Any ideas as to what is causing this?
