I'm absolutely with you about Excel and FrontPage Linda - as you =
probably
realise I detest Access, live with Word cos everybody else does and =
actually
quite like Publisher. The great thing about FrontPage in my view is =
that it
is possible to produce really good looking (and functioning) websites =
with
relatively little tuition. =20

Here in the UK we have a number of MSO options - as I found out recently
when I got my new laptop, the OEM options when you buy the hardware
mysteriously disappear when actual order is submitted lol! Yes you can =
buy
each product individually but the cost per item is so much more than =
buying
one of the suites. What I was really suggesting is that it should be
available by direct subscription (couldn't it) where you ticked the =
boxes
for each of the products you wanted, with the cost per program being
consistent. I've paid almost =A3300 - around $450? - for my Small =
Business
version that has got Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Publisher. Oh =
yes
and Business Contact Manager, which just doesn't want to work. That's a =
lot
of money I think! But to buy separately is even worse - Amazon has =
Excel
2003 or Word at =A3165, FrontPage =A3108. =20

I just can see that some people might want to run a website with an =
Access
driven database behind it. They wouldn=92t need Publisher or Powerpoint =
but
would want Access, FP, Outlook. The way the pricing is done they have =
to go
for the whole package in order to get Access. That seems crazy - and =
not a
little unfair.

Anyway, I remember once being advised by a computer bod who I respected
never to buy a new Microsoft product until the next version was in beta =
-
that way you would get a fully working version. The advice has turned =
out
to be quite sound! Which is why I got XP 18 months ago and am only just =
on
Office 2003! LOL

In answer to Robert's former professor's comments, my worry is that s/he =
may
be confusing two issues. Mostly no program can be both backwards and
forwards compatible, if you create a file in Word 2000 then re-edit in =
in
2003 you cant work on it again in 2000 unless it's been specifically =
saved
that way. Is this perhaps what the fax/es meant?

I've had my say now - and I'm definitely in weekend mode!

Bye y'all!

Anne

.....

Here in the states, it is possible to buy each of the Office programs
individually....is that not the case in the UK? But, bottom line is, =
here
in the states, if you are going to use more than two of the programs, =
it's
cheaper to buy the whole suite, so that's what I usually do.

Since I'm on the beta team for Office 2007, I'm not allowed to say too =
much
about the programs....so, you can just deduce what I think of them by =
what I
DON'T say. So far, all I can say is "they're pretty".

As far as I'm concerned, I could live without Office....I could be =
perfectly
happy replacing Word with another word processor....I'd have no problem
using a different database program instead of Access.....I could even
probably be tempted away from Outlook (tho I do like Outlook 2003 very
much)....but, the only two Office programs I would NOT want to give up =
are
Excel and FrontPage....I just looooove these two programs and I'll =
continue
to use them forever, no matter what Microsoft dictates.
