Greg - are we back on topic now or do we need to take this to an OS list? ;-) I may be wrong but while M$ does license their defragger from Executive Software (the makers of Diskeeper, I believe that Diskeeper Lite is much closer to the full version than it is to M$ defragmenter - they offer an upgrade from lite and the set-and-forget feature is about the only thing theypromote in the full version (which I used to have on all NT servers). Check this out: IMPORTANT: Diskeeper Lite includes the same advanced defragmentation technology used in Diskeeper full version. This program is the fastest defragmentation program ever built. Full version Diskeeper has 5 priority levels and can be easily set to run transparently in the background, even during peak production times. However, Diskeeper Lite is locked at the "normal" system priority level and may slow other online operations. While Diskeeper Lite far outperforms any other manual defragmenter available, the only true solution to the performance and stability degradationcaused by fragmentation is the powerful "Set It and Forget It"(R) automatic functions in Diskeeper full version Mark Greg Chapman wrote: I absolutely agree and the paid version is even "more better". But I didn't really want to tell someone who is trying to work a problem like this out, "By the way, the tool you bought really sucks." He can still get what he wants from Symantec's tool, he'll just have to be more patient.<g> Also, Diskeeper Lite is the defragmenting tool built in to 2000/XP so you don't even have to download it for those systems. However, I should add that the OSfeature formerly called SAGE (System Agent) is now part of MS' disk cleanuptool. It does an excellent job of optimizing file location on a disk and, if you really want to go for this type of optimization, it is probably the tool of preference for that job. It won't defrag but it will locate. And I just realized we are way OT here. Humble apologies to the group! Greg Chapman http://www.mousetrax.com[1] "Counting in binary is as easy as 01, 10,11!
