Hey Corey...I answered this one in a previous issue of ABC....here's what I
wrote:

Default language is set in the default paragraph in your Normal template.
Word has a bug where if you set a Default Language different from the System
Installed Language, it applies the default language as a hard property
(direct formatting) on the default paragraph of Normal. After that, it
becomes really difficult to change it.

1) Set English AU in your System (Control Panel>Regional Settings)
2) Set English AU in Word
3) Close Word and re-name your Normal template. (search your hard drive for
normal.dot and rename it)

Open Word again and Word will create a new normal.dot in which the default
language should now be correct.

Good luck...it's a known bug...and it may come back, so save these
instructions

Subject: [mso] Darn Languages!

Hi All,

I'm having a problem with Word 2000 at the moment. I'm writing up my
politics assignment, and everytime I open it, the language keeps changing
back to English (U.S).

Not bagging the US version of English, but it's just full of spelling
mistakes, and it makes it difficult to write a correct assignment! ;)

I've tried changing it back to English (Australia), and it changes well. It
even stays as English (Australia) while I'm working on it...until I open it,
when it converts back to English (U.S)!!

New documents are opened and saved in English (Australia), just not this
single document! I've gone and made sure that all possible language settings
in XP Pro are set to Australia, and I've even removed the US Language
settings.

Is there any way of making this document open in the correct language, or am
I doomed to converting it manually?

Cheers,

Corey
