[mso] Auto-launch of Programs on Plugin

I have a friend ...
When he plugs in a device into his USB or FireWire port, Windows senses that
he has plugged in the device and AUTOMATICALLY launches a program for that
device.
He wants that to stop.
How does he tell Windows to quit trying to help and just sit there and do
nothing.
