The problem is the 3-digit number is too wide for the first tab stop,
causing the "text" to "bleed over" that first tab stop. Then the tab
between the number and the text is going to the next tab, which is
probably the invisible .5 inch tab stop that Word uses by default. If
you adjust the first tab stop (using Format > Tabs or sliding the tab
stops in the ruler), this should fix it. An alternate way is to adjust
in Format > Bullets and Numbering > Numbered > Customize and adjusting
the settings there. I find this dialog to be more problematic though.

And while we are at it, please be sure that your numbers are
right-aligned. Columns of numbers should ALWAYS be right aligned.
Right-aligning for two-digit or three-digit numbers may require tweaking
as well.=20

Subject: [mso] A numbered list

I have a list of 110 items in a Word document. I created the list
unnumbered so I went to format>bullets and numbering>numbers tab>the
first option of a numeral followed by a period. When I click okay list
items 1-99 are perfect with the item one space to the right of the
number. Once it gets to 100 though it adds 4 or 5 blank spaces between
the number and the text, maybe the width of one tab stop. I changed the
font of the numbers only numbers 1-10 were correct and everything else
had the space. I tried several other fonts and they were all like the
first problem. I looked in the help file but it just says how to bullet
or number an exisitng list. I am using Word 2002. I would like to hear
any suggestions.

Thanks,
Paul=20
