Subject: [mso] 1st day of class in Outlook kindergarten

Greetings to all.

I'm new to this list and to Outlook. I'm in the process of finally
quitting AOL and have now set up three different email programs. I think
Outlook will be the one I stay with.

I have lots of questions but don't want to clog the list with things that
have been addressed already. Can you refer me to a tutorial or FAQ (please,
not Microsoft's!) that will help me with some of the usual setup issues? For
example:

--How to set it up so highlighted text is quoted in my replies.

--How to keep Outlook from automatically signing on and collecting
mail when I merely open the program (can't find anything in Tools: Options to
set this).

--How to get Inbox Assistant & Out-Of-Office Assistant to be
available so I can configure some Rules; what MS Express is all about (Help
said I needed Express in order to get the Out-of-Office Assistant which I
need in order to make Rules, but after I went back and installed Express, all
hell broke loose, and the Assistants are still grayed out).

--How to keep "junk" out of my posts (just want plain text; I have
unchecked MIME; the posts I've submitted via Outlook [to other mailing lists]
are showing up with the paperclip icon and some sort of server commands (??)
at the bottom -- see below for a small sample of it -- what's 600
WINMAIL.DAT?).

--How to set it up to check for new mail every 15 minutes (is this
even possible?), to "trick" my ISP into thinking I'm "active," so I won't be
signed off.

--How to get it to send mail right away (when I hit the Send button)
and keep the Send function separate from the Check for New Mail function
(possible?).

ETCETERA!!!

Thanks very much, Ess

P.S. When I'm using Outlook, I'm connected to the internet with a new ISP,
not AOL.
P.P.S. Here's part of what's at the bottom of mail I send via Outlook:
