Every day I get up between five and six in the morning. Well I should say
most days yesterday I didn’t get up until after seven. It was a quiet Sunday
morning. My street used to be quite busy, but what with the stay at home
restrictions we are having here in St. Louis, it has become somewhat of a
quiet street with busy times between 2 and 5 PM and maybe in the mornings
depending on the day.
When I get up I feed my dog let her out in the backyard and then when she
comes back in we go for a walk. It is her happy time of the day. She’s so
looks forward to her walk. It’s almost amazing. She comes in and bounces
around the house as if to say well are you going to take me for my walk???
So I put on her leash stick my cane in my pocket and off we go.
Yesterday on our walk, it was a beautiful morning with temperatures near 60
already. It has been a very nice spring here in St. Louis, this morning for
example the temperatures are in the 50s and we are supposed to get rain
later, but it has not been a hot spring which is usually the case. St. Louis
is almost unbearable in the summer, sometimes I think the trees are actually
sweating because it gets so hot during the day.
A couple years ago, when I was living in an apartment, I would swear that
the pine trees were sweating because of the smell of this app during the hot
summer evenings. The locusts down here are almost deafening at times. They
are I think probably bigger than the ones in Michigan and there are more of
them. Similar to the ones you might find in Florida or Georgia or South
Carolina. I digress.
Anyway, yesterday on our walk, I always listen to the birds. I love to hear
the birds. They wake early sometimes around 2:30 in the morning as I have
said before Robin‘s first then Cardinals then the sparrows. So we were
walking down the street and I was just enjoying the quiet and I heard this
Robin or robins in a tree ahead of me so I slow down.
As I listened to the bird/birds, not sure if there was one or two at first
it sounded like one of them was learning how to sing the Robbins song.
Robins have a very distinct song, once you hear it you will remember it and
enjoy it, they especially enjoy singing after a good rain. Anyway I was
listening to this bird/birds sing one to another and then I walked up to the
tree and stopped and remained quiet. My dog stood there looking around and I
was enjoying the birds singing. In a couple of minutes I continued my walk
for another 50 feet or so and decided it was time to return home for my
coffee. I turned around and came back to the tree at this point there was
only one Robin in the tree and so I stopped and listened again. I don’t
believe the Robin could have been more than about 18 inches from my nose.
That’s how close I was to it and I’m not sure that the bird even knew that I
was there because it was so busy singing and enjoying the day. It continue
to sing for another cou
e of minutes, and as I’m standing there, I’m thinking geez this would make aTo send a message,
nice picture or perhaps a video, a Robin singing in a tree I thought about
it for a moment and decided that if I moved one way or another to get my
phone out and take a picture or video that the Robyn would sense my presence
and fly away. I must have been right, because as I turned to go to Robin
flew from the tree thus ending the sequence of events which I will probably
remember for the rest of my life. It was just a fun moment and a very
enjoyable experience. I enjoy nature so much all the different birds, And
when I’m in the woods I am especially listening to hear animals in the
