Well I don't know anything about that one. If that mallet was dropped in horse poop it didn't happen while I had my hands on it lol hahahaha. Must have been in another class because it didn't happen while I was behind that drum.

Tell us about the drum mallet incident, where supposedly someone accidently
dropped the mallet in some hores poop. Is this true?

Yes, I did play in the marching band and I loved it. I remember the year we
went and played in the tullip festival up in Holland. That was the year we
took first place in the state finals. It was great. I played the bass drum
and man that thing was damn heavy. I kept right in step with the rest of the
guys though. We all had a blast.

Peggy, did you play in the marching band? I would have liked to have heard
the marching band in person, but it ceased to exist before I got there.

Peggy, I sort of remember when the strap came off the cymbal at the 1969
graduation, it made one hell of a noise!
Sorry it cut your foot.

Hey Marcia,
It takes good strong people to hold those cymbols up and oh boy could we
ever make some noise with those things. They were pretty heavy. I remember
when the class of 1969 was graduating and of course, the band played a
couple of numbers it the ceremony and I remember I had a cymbol solo part
which only lasted a couple of seconds but when I went to raise the cymbols
to bring them together, one of the straps came undone and of course, the
crazy thing fell to the floor with an awful crash and cut my foot. Man did
that thing hurt too and oh yes, it bled a little too. . I don't think I'll
ever forget that.

Peggy, I think I played the cymbals after you, but not 100 percent on that.

Olver, I played Tenor Saxophone through Graduation.

Hello Steve,
Yes, it is your fellow (or should I say lady?) band mate and yes, I did play
cymbols hahahaha lol. That big ol' bass drum too.
What good old days those were eh? We were all just wet behind the ears kids
and didn't have a care in the world right? And now look at us all.
Yes, my e-mail says yates but that is the way my friend Billy Malone set it
up. My last name is still spelled Yats however.
Thank-you so much for welcoming me to this awesome list. I know I am going
to love being here.
And oh yes, I am very sad today with the news of Larry's passing. He was
such a sweetheart and in my own way, I did love him. More than he will ever
know.

What sad news about Larry.

And, welcome to the list cymbal player from a fellow percussionist. I
wondered who the pyates was that subscribed to the list. I was thinking
Keith Yates, but it is Yats although the email says yates.

Hi John,
I too am in shock at the news of Larry's death. Karla also called me last evening and told me the news. My heart is heavy today with such sad news.

Hi all, I just got this info from Karla Fields, but she doesn't know any
more at the moment! Larry Yanchus, class of 70, was found dead either
yesterday or today, by his sister Lynn! As I said, nothing else is known
at this time, but as soon as I find out any details, I will let you all
know! Frankly, I am still in shock!

take care:
John
