I have made my own transistor, using a couple of germanium diodes to get
the cat's whiskers and the germanium, but home zone refining of the base
material isn't on. You can't make integrated circuits in the garage - in
fact, there are times when it seems you can't do it in a dedicated factory
with millions of pounds worth of equipment!
