Fascinating!

In fact, there is a lot of overlap between model engineering and radio, or 
rather, there used to be in days of valves, when chassis' were sheet metal 
work, and for VHF, assorted turned items were needed.
Sadly, much of that technology is disappearing.

On one of the other boards, there is a discussion based upon the premise 
that we (the older members) are the last generation who could re-start 
technology in the event of some major global catastrophe.
Probably true.
