Hi Chris. I have removed old bitumen etc. from the back of parquet
finger strips if this is what you want to do. I found that the easiest
method was to hold each strip in a vice and use a smallish blowtorch to
soften the bitumen followed by the use of a tungsten tipped paint
scraper. This removed most of the rubbish and I then followed up by
using a bench mounted belt linisher to clean the edges and ends. One
with a disc as well as a belt is good for keeping the ends square

If it is the floor you are trying to clear, the same sort of arrangment
might be suitable but would probably cause a lot of nuisance from fumes
indoors!

If you are doing a whole room it will be a long job.
