Here is the layout of the Motif XS which is the same as the Motif XF.

Motif XS6 button layout.

This is the button layout of the Motif XS6 starting at the left side of the board.

First single row of 4 buttons:
Select part control
Multi-part control
Select function 1
Select function 2

To the right of this column of buttons are the 8 assignable knobs.

Under the 8 assignable knobs are the master volume control, and 8 assignable sliders.

To the right of the assignable knobs are 3 rows of buttons as follows:

Remote mode on/off; Arpeggio on/off

Effect Bypass mode:
Insertion; System; Master effect

Octave controls:
Octave down; Octave up

Under the octave controls are two rows of three buttons designated as "sequence transport" as follows:

Sequence transport:
Beginning of sequence; Rewind; Fast forward.
Record; Stop; Play.

Immediately under the led display are two rows of 6 buttons each as follows:
sf1; sf2; sf3; sf4; sf5; sf6
F1; f2; f3; f4; f5; f6

Under the data dial are the following buttons.

dec/no; inc/yes
Below the dial are the four arrow keys, layed out just like on a pc keyboard. Below all four arrows, are 2 buttons: exit; enter

To the right of the dial are 5 rows of buttons layed out as follows:

Voice; perform; master
Song; pattern; Seq setup
Intigrated sampling; Mixing
File; Utility; Common edit
Edit; Job; Store/scene/set locate

The next group of buttons are 5 rows of 8 buttons each as follows:

Row 1 is labeled Pre 1 through Pre 8 with the following instrument categories:
Piano; Keyboard; Organ; Guitar; Bass; strings; brass; sax/woodwind

Row 2 is labeled Section I through P with the following instrument categories:
User1, synth lead; User2; pads/choirs; User3, synth comp; gm, chromatic percussion; gm dr, drum percussion; pre dr, sound fx; user dr, musical fx; ethnic.

Row 3 is the sub category buttons and are labeled A through H.

Rows 4 and 5 are the part select buttons and are labeled 1 through 8 and
9 through 16 respectively.

Notes:
Buttons 5 6 7 and 8 have the label arp on/off under them
Buttons 9 through 12 have the label Part Mute under them
Buttons 13 through 16 have the label arpeggio hold under them.

Finally, to the right of the 5 by 8 group of buttons, are 6 buttons layed out as follows:

Program (lined up with row 1)
Category search (lined up with row 2)
Performance control; track (lined up with row 4), and
Mute; solo (lined up with row 5).

Pannel button layout notes:

The select part control button has three parameters: Tone 1, tone 2, and Arp FX. When the synthesizer is powered on, this control defaults to tone 1. Each press of the select part control button will change the settings of the 8 assignable knobs. The settings are as follows:

Tone 1:
Knob 1, cutoff; Knob 2, resonance; Knob 3, attack; Knob 4, decay;
Knob 5, sustain; Knob 6, release; Knob 7, assign 1; Knob 8, assign 2.

Tone 2:
Knob 1, eQ Low; Knob 2, eQ Mid F; Knob 3, eQ mid; Knob 4, eQ, midQ;
Knob 5, eQ high; Knob 6, pan; Knob 7, reverb; Knob 8, chorus.

ARP fx:
Knob 1, swing; Knob 2, quantize value; Knob 3, quantize strength;
Knob 4, gate time; Knob 5, velocity; Knob 6, octave range;
Knob 7, unit multiply; Knob 8, tempo.

The multipart control button appears to do nothing when repeatedly pressed, but there are three lights just to the right of it labeled reverb, chorus, and pan respectively.

the same ... are they?
