Sorry, but ferrite slug inside RFC will warm-up more when in TX ( will
not burn hands though ) but will raise the inductance...
I had bad experience with 2.2uh RFC used in scratch build BITX (in
it's early stage of building)
had to retune for best DIP from TX to RX... ( that might not be an
issue here but

& when changed with airwound, there was dramatic change in signal,
well that was an  old story, but might be useful.

I too home brewed VK3BHR LC + varacter .
I too use bolted stand offs (polymer), but on both sides.

And if TV Guanella Baluns cores or torroids are unavailable.
One can recycle IEEE802.3 LAN  PT-module from junk. They work well
from 1 to 30 Mhz and above.
They also comes prewinded with 2 and 3 insulated wire,

They are everywhere starting from Computer LAN card, PBX, IP phones.
As to isolate Local area network. from garbage or from E-Dump
