Raj, thanks for pointing that one out. We can add a resistor between the 
colllector and the diode (or a diode as per raj's suggestion). I will build 
this today and try it out.

When the switching Tr is biased ON, it will short collector to Gnd and 
therefore enable the (L) trimmer while the other diode will also conduct and 
connect the (R) trimmer. This will not work IMHO. Add a diode from collector to 
the first (L) trimmer that may work!
