Hi Dora, Here is the body of the e-mail newsletter minus the attachments. I'm not sure how I got signed up for it either. Dear Milestone 311 Customer,? With this email you receive the firmware 3.1 for your Milestone 311, as well as advanced information about Speakout - our new hardware add-on for Milestone 311 to tag objects of your daily life. 1. Firmware 3.1 The new firmware mainly includes the software needed for the Speakout module (see description below), it supports pauses during long voice records and it supports SD memory cards of the SD HC standards now commonly introduced. Such SD cards usually have huge storage capacity, such as 4 or 8 GB. Further details about the contents of the new firmware can be found in the attached release notes. Update is straightforward - simply put the attached file MSW.BIN into the root directory of your Milestone 311. It does not matter if you do this with the internal memory or a SD memory card - both will work. We do, however, recommend to do it from the SD memory card as it showed to confuse the user less. The individual steps are like this: - Connect your Milestone to your PC, via USB. If Milestone is in MP3 mode, DAISY mode or memory card voice recorder mode, make sure you have a SD card inserted in the SD card slot. - Milestone shows up as additional drive on your PC. - Now copy the file MSW.BIN on the root directoy of the drive. - Safely disconnect Milestone from your PC, by <abmelden> it. If you don't know how to do this, wait for 15 seconds, then pull the cable out. This way you make sure that the file has been copied fully before the connection is interrupted. Upon removal of USB, Milestone will do the rest automatically. The update takes about one minute. When finished, Milestone welcomes you with the works: "Software updated. Three, One". If your Milestone is DAISY capable, this will be mentioned in addition. Regardless if you have installed DAISY on your Milestone 311 or not, you can put the same firmware 3.1, because Milestone 311 automatically adjusts accordingly at runtime. For further details of the new firmware, please refer to the attached release notes. 2.?Speakout Let the tag speak to you:?Speakout is a small hardware add-on for Milestone 311 to record your own short or detailed description to tags. Be it food, files, medical drugs, bottles or frozen food - a small tag on an item helps to identify it by playing back the notation you previously put on it. Dedicated tags for CD?s are also included. Speakout is based on the RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification). The next 3 lines of text are the instruction manual:?Keep the play button of Milestone 311 pressed to seek tags. They are being announced when found. Now press record to associate a voice message to it. Now seek the tag again. When it is found you hear your voice from the previous record. You can playback and re-record your tags as many times as you want. Period. Want to read more tags??Messages to individual tags, e.g., tags placed at public places such as bus stops, museums or buildings, can easily be downloaded to your personal unit. Also, you can copy your individual tag notes to the Milestone of your colleague, let?s say to share tag information in an office efficiently. Ask your distributor for further information. As introduction special Speakout comes with 60 tags until the end of June 2007. As of July, 30 tags will be included. See the attached information leaflet for advanced information.?Have fun with Milestone 311 and Speakout!
