Thanks for the clarification. I thought there was some setting that I got
wrong. Too bad they couldn't have the option of having an audible beep to
confirm recording has started as they do for confirming that the recording
has stopped with a double beep. Doesn't sound like that should have been
hard to implement.
Overall this is an incredibly accessible and easy to use recorder. The only
thing they missed was to have a different sound when arming and unarming
tracks. Since both arming and disarming a track currently makes the same
tone, there is no way for a blind person to know whether a track is armed or
unarmed. What an oversight in what is otherwise a well thought out design
for accessibility. Hopefully they can push a firmware release out soon to
fix that. Don't know what their plan is. I'm guessing they've heard
feedback from users about that.

Hi Pete. There is no recording beep when you start. They had some trouble
with the start beep on the H1, and they did not put it in the h4 or h6. You
will hear that tone if you have headphones on. As far as the tone you hear
in playback, there is a rec start tone in the Rec Settings menu. This tone
is a volume reference tone for when you need to record to other devices. You
can turn this off in that menu.

I purchased this very nice and very accessible recorder recently. Zoom
really did a nice job with the Zoom Essential series.
Here is my question: My understanding was that when pressing the record
button to start a recording that I would hear a single confirming beep and
that when pressing the record button again to stop the recording that I
would hear a double beep to confirm.
I do hear the double beep through the speaker when ending the recording.
However, I do not hear the single beep confirming that a recording has
started. Surprisingly, when listening to the recording however, I do hear
the starting beep in the recording itself.
Is there something I am missing here or do I have something set wrong? It
seems silly to record the start beep and not be able to hear it through the
speaker as one can for the end recording beeps.
