Honestly, the specs between the H Essential series noise floor of -120DB and
the F series -127DB is extremely unlikely to be noticed, seriously, the
noise floor is so low, the difference, while there, is purely theoretical.
I suspect what you heard on that video is due to production and upload to
youtube and the resultant loss of quality. The thing about 32 bit float is
that when you do record too low, increasing the signal does not introduce
noise like 24 and 16 bit recording due to the way it is encoded. I have an
f3 and have tested it.

Hi, I'm not an expert here, but I think you might be right. Plus I heard a
demo on youtube and I'm rather disapointed about the recording quality. The
mic preamps have noticeable hissing to me. Guess you can't expect too much
at this price point, but I still was hoping the mic preamps would have been
updated. A reviewer on youtube has the feeling that Zoom might present the
really pro recorders later, it's the essential series after all. So it might
be of advantage to wait for maybe a year or so if one can. This said of
course I'm very happy about the accessability Zoom provides with the talking
menus and I still might get one of these just out of gratitude and to see
what it's like to record in 32-bit float in reality.

HI Y'all,
Zoom have released the new essential series, h1 essential, h4 essential and
h6 essential. All with full talking menus. Very accessible.
My question is 32 bit float.
I presume the 32 bit encoding occurs after the mike pre, and it allows very
loud or very soft recordings which can be corrected after the event. With
apparently no degradation.
But my question is, this 32 bit does nothing for the mike pre amp.
If you're loud, aren't you driving your mike pre in to harmonic or
intermodulation distortion?
And 32 bit won't correct that.
Similarly if you record very soft, 32 bit won't do anything about the mike's
own noise floor.
So are my assumptions correct.
And the mike preamps on this, at that price, aren't going to be pro
standard.
